I just looked at the weather forecast for the weekend and it looks like the highs will be under 100° for a change. That is if the weather guru’s know whats up this week. So, plan to take advantage of the cool spell and come on out and shoot more than one gun!

Just in from the N.R.A. Competition Division is the announcement that N.R.A. Registered Tournaments at State, Regional and National levels will no longer require membership in the N.R.A. I know that most of you are members and that this does not have any effect for you. However, I do urge you to become a member if you aren’t. N.R.A. is still the strongest voice for the Second Amendment. On that subject, the U.S. Supreme Court in Heller vs. District of Columbia has ruled that individuals DO have the right to keep and bear arms. Hurrah! At long last. Vote was 5-4. Expect more “spin” on this decision, restrictions being “reasonable”.

Also of interest are new requirements at the main range at Ben Avery Shooting Facility:

  • All firearms must be in a case or properly holstered to enter the main range. (Gun socks and scabbards will no longer be allowed as a substitute.)
  • Eye protection must be worn by shooters and spectators while on the main range. (Sunglasses and prescription eyewear are acceptable substitutes.)

Nothing drastic on this subject but might cause some additional driving if you aren’t informed.

Summer hours once more, gates open around 8 and practice begins as soon as everyone is registered. So come on out early and get in a few shots before the match which begins at 9am sharp.

Oh, BTW, if you are looking for a count up/down timer to use at the range, try Walgreens. Four bucks, one AAA batt. Not included. I bought two of ‘em.
